Historical essay (in English, Inuktitut and French) on the education in Nunavik

In this historical essay in education, the first on this subject, Véronique Paul, in collaboration with Elisapi Uitangak Tukalak and Siaja Mark Mangiuk, recounts the stages and challenges of taking charge of the schooling of the Inuit communities of Nunavik (Québec) from 1950 to 1990. The essay demonstrates the resistance shown by the Inuit to institutions from outside and the methods they developed to integrate their language and cultures into their schools. The authors are particularly interested in two dissident communities, those of Ivujivik and Puvirnituq, who undertook to build and administer their own school project for and by local populations. The study allows us to better understand the path taken by those who experienced these changes and therefore reflects the situation in Nunavik with regard to the educational institution.
