Podcast directed by Catherine Ego and Mathieu Lavigne with Elisapie Lamoureux in Ivujivik
In this interview [in French] conducted by Catherine Ego in March 2023 in Ivujivik (Nunavik), this young remedial teacher at the Nuvviti school talks about the Rencontres Action Jeunesse, an event that enables young people to make Québec decision-makers aware of their realities, opportunities and challenges. She also talks about her responsibilities as a member of the Qarjuit Youth Council, with whom she participated in a week-long treaty negotiation simulation, a formative exercise that enabled her to meet some of the negotiators of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
In 2022, Elisapie Lamoureux took part in COP27 to draw the international community's attention to the particular challenges of global warming in the North, and to forge links with other young aboriginals from around the world.
Very close to the young people of Nunavik, our guest expresses their main current concerns and is involved in the “Nurrait - Jeunes Karibus” program, which fosters perseverance and self-esteem through outdoor activities.
In the course of this podcast, Elisapie Lamoureux soberly and luminously conveys her immense attachment to her mother tongue, her family and her community... and doesn't fail to warn us about the polar bears that sometimes prowl around her village of Ivujivik!
