Nunavik students co-create a book based on a traditional story
“Un livre à la fois” is a project bringing together primary school pupils and university students around a common goal: to work on the creation of illustrated books. Since its founding in 2017, the project has forged links between one hundred and fifty students from the Faculty of Arts of the Université du Québec à Montréal and as many students from the Champlain School, in the Centre-Sud district in Montréal. They have published eighteen books to date, the fruit of their joint efforts.
By partnering with the International Laboratory for Research on Images of the North, Winter and the Arctic, “Un livre à la fois” publishes a first bilingual album in French and Inuktitut. In November 2022, seven students aged ten to twelve from Nuvviti School in Ivujivik welcomed into their classes a student and a professor from the Department of Literary Studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Together they wrote and illustrated this book, titled ᐃᓄᒐᒍᓪᓕᖅ L'inugagullirq.
