Podcast [in French] directed by Catherine Ego and Mathieu Lavigne with Louis-Jacques Dorais in Québec City
After a pivotal stay in Quaqtaq, on Ungava Bay in Nunavik, Louis-Jacques Dorais embarked on a determined journey to learn Inuktitut, a language that now holds no secrets for him. Holding a master's degree in anthropology from the University of Montreal and a doctorate in linguistics from Paris, our guest taught anthropology at Laval University for some forty years, inspiring many to pursue studies in the North. Among other research and information institutions, Louis-Jacques Dorais co-founded the Inuit and Circumpolar Studies Group (GETIC), which in 2002 became the Interuniversity Centre for Indigenous Studies and Research (CIÉRA), an essential resource for anyone interested in the Inuit and First Nations.
Speaking to Catherine Ego, Louis-Jacques Dorais recounts his extraordinary journey as a researcher and teacher, and evokes with emotion and precision the world of the Inuit, a people he knows well and deeply admires.
